Our Compost
Nuturing Gardens, Sustaining Earth.
At SA Mushrooms, we're not just about growing delicious mushrooms – we're also dedicated to sustainable practices. Our mushroom compost is the secret behind our flourishing fungi and the foundation of our commitment to environmental stewardship. When the mushrooms have finished cropping, what remains is an ideal potting-mix, garden mulch and soil conditioner for any home garden, vineyard or market garden.
Benefits of Mushroom, Compost.
Gardens thrive on mushroom compost as a mulch and soil conditioner. It's perfect for a variety of plants, from flowers and trees to vegetables and herbs. Plus, it's an eco-friendly option, recycling waste and conserving water.
"Mulching your garden is equivalent to halving your weekly watering. It means you can have both a lush garden and practice water conservation."
Sydney Water Managing Director, Paul Broad.
How to use our Compost?
Spread mushroom compost on the soil surface.
Incorporate the compost into the top 10 to 30cm of soil.
Allow about 1 week for compost to settle and blend with the soil.
Sow seeds or transplant plants.
Water well initially.
By using mushroom compost, you're not just nurturing your garden – you're also conserving water. With its ability to retain moisture and improve soil structure, mushroom compost is a win-win for both your plants and the environment.
You save water with mushroom compost because it:
Stores up to 70% of its own weight in water
Improves transmission of water through the soil
Keeps the soil cooler in warmer weather and increases soil resistance to both wind and water erosion
Crafted from a carefully balanced blend of recycled organic materials, including stable bedding, wheat straw, poultry litter, and cotton seed hulls, mushroom compost is a powerhouse of nutrients for your plants. It's ideal for a wide range of garden applications, including flowering plants, trees, shrubs, vegetable gardens, and lawn establishment. However, it's not recommended for some native plants and acid-loving species like azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons.
In addition to providing essential plant nutrients and promoting seedling growth, mushroom compost offers long-lasting benefits for soil health. Research conducted by the Victorian Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs over three years revealed that mushroom compost contains nearly all the nutrients required for robust plant growth. Moreover, it releases these nutrients slowly, improves soil structure, conserves moisture, and produces no harmful decomposition by-products.
Experience the transformative power of mushroom compost in your garden and nurture vibrant, thriving plants with ease.
